Google+ Does it add up?

According to the Wall Street Journal dated July 22, Google+ has added 20 million users in three weeks. What’s all the ruckus? Should Facebook be worried? As education marketers, do we see opportunities?

Let’s start with what Google+ is. It’s really two things. First things first, it’s a +1 button that appears on YouTube videos, Google affiliated web sites, blogs, etc.

The Day Steve Wilkos Came to PlattForm

I get a lot of odd/bizarre/quirky assignments here at PForm.  Imagine my surprise when I got a phone call last week from one of our PForm’s VPs:  “Hey, Michael … Steve Wilkos is coming in to the agency this Friday.  Can you please schmooze him and make him feel welcome since that’s sort of your thing?”

The weird part … that IS sort of my thing.

New Media Meets Old-school Journalism

At a dead-end mall – easily a decade-and-a-half past its last serious Christmas rush – I sat with my colleagues on PlattForm’s Marketing-Communications team Tuesday afternoon in a theater showing art films. In the 1970 and 1980s, this venue presented the original blockbusters but have since come to irrelevance due to their unfortunate attachment to dying malls and the invention of vastly superior home technology.

The PlattForm Net Price Calculator

Like it or not, all schools must comply with HEOA’s requirement to have a net price calculator on the school website by October 29th. The calculator determines the true cost of attending the school.

With around two months to go, how are schools dealing with this latest challenge? If the Chinese fire drill that happened earlier this summer with ad disclaimers is any indication, many schools might get caught off guard and rush to comply at the last minute.

Is your media plan election year friendly?

The recent Iowa straw poll is a reminder that we’re approaching an election year. The airwaves will be populated with commercials for politicians running for office, as well as spots for interest groups.

The stress on advertising comes from both the glut of political ads and the election law that requires radio and TV stations to provide advertising spots to politicians at the lowest rate it has sold to other clients for comparable dayparts. The law applies 45 days before a primary election and 60 days before a general election.
